*NFL Clubs Host 15 USA Football Schools at Team Facilities; More Planned for 2008*

USA Football, the sport’s national governing body leading the game’s development on a grassroots level, conducted 19 single-day coaching schools in 2007 which drew nearly 4,000 youth football coaches, impacting approximately 100,000 youth players.

Fifteen (15) NFL clubs hosted a USA Football Coaching School at their practice facilities in 2007 and more than two dozen teams will host one in 2008.

In addition to progressive classroom and on-the-field football instruction from top high school coaches, participating youth coaches are introduced to best communication practices toward players, parents, and officials, fostering positive and fun experiences for all involved with the sport.

“We look forward to growing our coaching school schedule and making our program even stronger in 2008,” says USA Football Executive Director SCOTT HALLENBECK.  “The best way to shape America’s favorite sport at the youth level is to provide coaches with resources to become quality instructors and mentors.  We’re doing that in an exciting way, thanks in large part to NFL clubs – all of which care about this game and their communities.”

Inspirational keynote speakers are featured at every USA Football coaching school.  The 2007 roster included:

  • JOE MORRIS, former NFL All-Star running back (New York Giants, Cleveland Browns)
  • DAVID THORNTON, Tennessee Titans linebacker
  • JIM TOMSULA, San Francisco 49ers defensive line coach
  • JEFF KING, Carolina Panthers tight end

New York Jets Head Coach ERIC MANGINI is USA Football’s coaching program advisor and spokesperson.  In addition to coaching schools, USA Football’s comprehensive coaching program offers:

  • Two levels of online coaching courses at USAFootball.com, implementing 2-D and 3-D animation. In addition to football, the courses include insight on communication with players, parents, and game officials.
