USA Football Player Academy - Northern Virginia (June, 2008)

Author: USA Football Staff Reports

Published: February 1, 2008

In June 2008, USA Football will host its inaugural Player Academy at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va.

The three-day camp (June 24-26) is designed to advance experienced youth players, aged 10-14, who seek to improve their skills and ultimately become competitive high school players.

USA Football Player Academy participants should already have a grasp of the sport’s fundamentals and possess more than a basic understanding of the game.

The USA Football Player Academy is a modified contact camp where players execute drills with fellow campers and bags in a controlled environment.  Camp activities focus on developing individual skills and refining technique without scrimmaging.  The camp’s curriculum encompasses on-field and classroom instruction as well as film review.

Campers are encouraged to bring their own helmet and shoulder pads, but are available for rent for $30.

Over a three-day period, campers will gain instruction and insight from top high school and youth coaches, who evaluate each player’s current abilities and provide clear direction on how to improve upon those skills while teaching football fundamentals.

Attendance is limited to the first 300 participants (30-quarterbacks; 150-skill positions; 120 linemen).  Players will be split into age groups of 10-12 and 13-14.

USA Football Player Academy campers will receive:

  • LOW PLAYER-TO-COACH RATIO – Approximately 20 coaches and a capped enrollment ensures expert individual attention.
  • ON-FIELD INSTRUCTION – Taught by experienced high school and youth coaches.
  • VIDEO INSTRUCTION – Classroom-based learning for extended review.
  • GROWTH CARDS – Each individual receives a card with position-specific goals and progress tracking..
  • SAFE ENVIRONMENT – Conducted at one of the areas top high school facilities.
  • PRACTICE GEAR – Enrollment comes with a USA Football practice jersey with his/her name on back, practice shorts, and t-shirt.

Lunch is provided and each camper receives a certificate of participation and USA Football membership which includes a practice jersey, skills DVD, Kids Magazine, Online Trading Cards, and more.
