I have been playing football pretty much my whole life. The funny thing is that neither my mother nor my father liked football.

Growing up I was always smaller, but I was fearless. My football coaches taught me quite a bit. I would have to say dealing with adversity is the one I keep with me the most and pass on to my kids. Because I was small I had to overcome more obstacles, but my coaches told me never to give up.

When I finished high school I thought football was over. I joined the military and continued playing football with an Inner Service League. I am 35 now and I just recently retired from football. I played for a semi-pro football team here in San Antonio.

I have been coaching for Pop Warner for about 4 years now. I love the game and like helping these kids. Some of these kids don't have fathers and some don't have very many friends. To have these kids trust me and not just play for themselves, but for each other, is teaching me much more than some of my coaches ever did.

In the picture, I am number 28 in all black.
